Aris’s press officer, Kostas Papadopoulos, spoke to “SPOR FM 95.0” about everything related to the Limassol team.
First, he discussed the victory over Anorthosis, the team’s current form, and Sarfo’s injury. He also commented on the refereeing, the upcoming match against APOEL, and the competitive landscape leading up to the game. Finally, regarding the possibility of allocating part of the north stand to APOEL fans, he noted that a decision is expected following the police meeting scheduled for today.
In detail
On the victory over Anorthosis: “We managed to turn the game around against Anorthosis. In the second half, the players gained confidence and showed that they don’t give up. This victory, beyond the three points, also boosts the morale of our young players. Our coach has emphasized several times that one of the main goals is for our players to realize the potential they have ahead of them. These are talented players.
From the start of the season, there was doubt as to whether this team would be able to gel and produce results. Early on, our performance was inconsistent, but in recent games we’ve shown more stability. It’s one thing to play good soccer and quite another to get results.
We’re especially happy to see these players getting the chance to shine.”
On Sarfo: “He has undergone an MRI, and we expect to learn his recovery timeline today. He is questionable for the match against APOEL.”
On the refereeing in the match against Anorthosis: “Anorthosis, like any team, has the right to express its opinion. The fact that they lodged complaints doesn’t mean we have to respond. We don’t usually take on the role of refereeing critics on the radio. Anorthosis has every right to speak out, but that doesn’t mean we have to open a public debate about refereeing.”
Regarding the match against APOEL and the special significance of the Nicosia team’s 100th anniversary: “It’s a historic game for APOEL, but we are Aris and we want to win a tough game whether there are 10,000 or 15,000 fans in the stadium. They want to celebrate their 100th anniversary, a historic milestone, but for us, nothing changes. We’ll work hard to be competitive and secure the victory.”
If APOEL requests a section of the north stands: “The police meeting is today; our representatives are there. Let’s wait for the meeting to conclude, and then we’ll be able to say more.”
Regarding team news: “Besides Sarfos, Hambos has accumulated yellow cards, but he’ll miss the next game, not the one against APOEL. Gasustad and Koreia are returning.”
On Verton’s contract: “There is a purchase option for Verton.”
