“They attack us at night. They throw stones at us and kick us.”
This is one of many testimonies recorded by Germany’s largest newspaper, “Deutsche Welle,” from foreign food delivery workers in Cyprus, regarding the attacks, beatings, and robberies they face almost daily from groups of mostly young people who act methodically and under cover of darkness.
“They stop us, steal our motorcycles, steal our money, beat us up, and steal our orders. We can’t do anything,” says another interviewee, describing what delivery workers experience on the streets of Cyprus and denouncing that they work in fear of violence.
Food delivery drivers share personal stories of how they fell victim to attacks “with knives and screwdrivers” that sent them or their colleagues to the hospital for treatment, while they express complaints about how the police have handled these cases.
