The match between Tenerife and Andorra in Spain’s second division was suspended before it ended. Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel, is fighting for his life; he is currently in the intensive care unit following a shocking collision with Andorra’s goalkeeper, Jesús Ovono.
In fact, the latest updates on his condition are concerning, as a statement from Tenerife mentions a deterioration in his neurological condition following his admission to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital.
The 30-year-old forward suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest, and paramedics administered first aid to the player on the field before immediately transporting him by ambulance to the hospital. According to the initial medical report, “the soccer player regained a pulse thanks to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) administered by medical personnel inside the ambulance. De Miguel is breathing on his own, although he remains unconscious.”
However, early Tuesday morning, Tenerife reported that the Spanish star’s condition had worsened and added that it would issue an update in the coming hours.
Goalkeeper Ovono, who caused the injury, is reportedly in a very poor psychological state, and according to his team, he intends to apologize to him in person, hoping above all else that he will recover.
