Cyprus participated in an international law enforcement operation, involving Europol and under the auspices of Eurojust, to dismantle a network allegedly providing infrastructure for online investment scams with victims in more than 50 countries.
During the coordinated operation, which took place today simultaneously in six countries, more than 100 servers were seized, and seven suspects were arrested.
The operation was carried out with the participation of authorities from Cyprus, Albania, Finland, Germany, Kosovo, and North Macedonia, and focused on investigating cases of investment fraud carried out through fraudulent online platforms.
As part of the operation, members of the Office for the Execution of European Investigation Orders & Requests for Judicial Assistance, in collaboration with members of the Limassol CID, the (Operations) of the Police Headquarters, the Forensic Electronic Data Laboratory, and members of the German authorities, conducted a total of seven searches at residences and business offices in Limassol.
During the searches, a large number of items of evidence were located and seized, including laptops, cell phones, and digital wallets. At the same time, two women aged 30 and a third woman aged 54 were arrested pursuant to European arrest warrants.
The suspects were brought before the Limassol District Court to begin the process of their extradition to the German authorities. The court set a later date for the start of the extradition proceedings and ordered that the three suspects be released on bail.
