Mandatory repatriations of Syrians whose asylum applications have been definitively rejected by the Administrative Court have begun, according to a post on the “X” platform by the Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection, Nikolas Ioannidis, stated in a post on the “X” platform.
Mr. Ioannides noted that “the Republic of Cyprus is one of the few European Union member states that forcibly repatriates Syrians.”
“At the same time, we are rapidly continuing to reject unfounded asylum applications and revoke subsidiary protection status from those who are not entitled to it,” he said.
In addition, he said that “in the coming months, inspections will be stepped up to identify undocumented residents and combat illegal/undeclared work.”
“The cooperation of those who employ or house foreign nationals is essential to ensure that the relevant legislation is not violated,” he added.
