It was a historic night for Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, as the Parisians routed Villarreal 6-0 and set a new club record in the process.
PSG has now gone 14 consecutive games without a loss in the competition, a streak that is now the longest unbeaten run in the club’s Champions League history.
The match was essentially decided very early on, as the French team scored four goals in the first 17 minutes, taking full advantage of the home team’s repeated defensive errors.
João Neves opened the scoring from close range off a corner kick, before Désiré Doué capitalized on a major mistake in Villarreal’s build-up play. Just one minute later, Seny Mayulu made it 3-0, while Fabián Ruiz scored the fourth before the first twenty minutes were even up.
The Spanish midfielder scored his second goal of the match after halftime, bringing the score to 5-0, while 17-year-old David Boly capped off the rout with a shot that found the back of the net after a rebound off a defender.
Paris once again confirmed its impressive attacking form in Europe, having already scored four goals against both Barcelona and Manchester City in this year’s competition.
With the 6-0 victory, the French champions reached 12 points in four games, remaining at the top of the group stage with a perfect record, while their historic unbeaten streak in the Champions League has now reached 14 matches.
