Yamal: He made history in the Champions League and left Mbappé in the dust

In just 37 appearances in the tournament

Lamine Yamal added yet another historic record to his resume, becoming the top scorer in Champions League history among players under the age of 20.

The 19-year-old Barcelona star opened the scoring just seven minutes into the 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at Camp Nou, capitalizing on a mistake by the English team and sending the ball past Zion Suzuki.

With this goal, he reached 14 goals in the Champions League and surpassed Kylian Mbappé, who had scored 13 as a teenager.

Behind them on the list is Erling Haaland with 10 goals, followed by Justin Kluivert with 7, and Raúl, Karim Benzema, and Jude Bellingham with 6.

What’s most impressive is that Yamal needed just 37 appearances in the competition to achieve this feat, having already broken several age records in Europe’s top club competition.

He remains the youngest player to start a Champions League match, having made his European debut in the starting lineup against Porto at the age of 16 years and 83 days.

He has also become the youngest player to score a goal and provide an assist in the same Champions League match, as well as the youngest scorer in a semifinal. He had also scored five goals before turning 18 and eleven before turning 19.

Yamal has also gotten off to an impressive start this season, with 13 goals and 11 assists in 15 appearances across all competitions, just days after finishing third in the “Golden Ball” award behind Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé.
