Paulo Fonseca is no longer with Lyon!
The Portuguese coach is leaving the French club after nearly two years and will now take the reins at Sporting Lisbon, replacing Rui Borges.
Georges Masiell will serve as interim coach at Lyon, with the club set to find a permanent replacement for Fonseca during the offseason.
“Paulo Fonseca, having been approached in recent days by a club for which he has a special affection, informed the management of his desire to leave Lyon. This is an unexpected decision, which Lyon deeply regrets, particularly given the timing—in the middle of the season.
Given this clearly expressed desire, the club’s management determined that it was not in the club’s best interests to continue a partnership that could no longer guarantee the level of total dedication which is essential to the success of the endeavor. “At such a critical juncture in the season, Lyon believes that all of its resources must be fully mobilized and focused on the club’s goals,” the Olympique Lyonnais statement reads, among other things.
Fonseca managed Lyon in 83 matches, recording 47 wins, 11 draws, and 25 losses.
