Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Mostafa Khamenei, warned today that the conflict in the Middle East will escalate if the U.S. launches new strikes against the Islamic Republic.
“If such attacks are repeated, the war will be much more widespread,” Khamenei said in a written message posted on his official website.
At the same time, Mostafa Khamenei assessed that U.S. hostility toward Iran will not change through partisan realignments or any concessions to the U.S., commenting that those who believe otherwise “are making a big mistake,” following the Republican Party’s defeat in the U.S. midterm elections.
He also noted that Iran’s destruction of U.S. bases in the region and its control of the Strait of Hormuz are part of Tehran’s campaign against U.S. hegemony.
“The U.S. believes that the end of its hegemony is far off; we believe it is near,” he emphasized.
Iran’s supreme leader has not made any public appearances since taking office in March.
