A government with Arab parties would “destroy” the State of Israel, Netanyahu warned

Herzog announces who he will task with forming a government

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned today that a coalition government between the opposition bloc and the Arab parties would bring down the State of Israel.

Following the parliamentary elections on October 27, Israeli President Isaac Herzog is expected to announce tomorrow, Sunday, to whom he will grant an exploratory mandate to form a government.

The leader of the opposition bloc, Gadi Eizenkot, who has received the support of the Arab parties United List and Ra’am (19 seats), appears to be the frontrunner.

“Such a government, dependent on Islamists, will dismantle the State of Israel from within, as is happening in European countries, and to an even greater extent,” Netanyahu warned in a pre-recorded speech.

This statement echoes the rhetoric regularly used by Western politicians and far-right commentators, who make baseless claims that certain regions of Europe are subject to Islamic law due to the immigrant populations living there, prompting accusations of Islamophobia.

Netanyahu has repeatedly attacked Arab parties, which he portrays as “supporters of terrorism” seeking to “Islamize Israel.”

While Eisenkot has not ruled out cooperation with Arab parties, he has not ruled out an alliance with ultra-Orthodox parties either.

According to reports, Herzog is working behind the scenes to form a government of national unity.

Today, Netanyahu confirmed his support for this idea, envisioning himself as the head of such a government. “I call for the formation of a national unity government that will bring together all the parties of the national camp and all the Zionist parties that wish to preserve our State, the only state of the Jewish people,” he said.
