Aiming to maintain its lead in the race for first place, Panathinaikos travels to Thessaloniki, where Heraklis awaits them on Sunday (Nov. 8, 5:30 p.m.), as part of Matchday 10 of the Stoiximan Super League.
Jacob Nystrup’s team is in first place, two points ahead of Olympiacos, having earned 24 points in the first nine matchdays. With eight wins to its credit, the “clover” has put its defeat in the derby against the “red-and-whites” behind it and has since shown consistent form, racking up three consecutive league wins.
In fact, the most recent one was particularly significant, as they defeated AEK 2-0 at the OAKA, followed by a 2-1 home victory over CSKA Sofia in the Conference League. The “Greens” have started with a perfect record in the European competition, but they now face a demanding schedule, as they will play in Thessaloniki less than three days after their European match.
On the other side, Heraklis aims to take advantage of its home-court advantage and put an end to the losing streak of recent weeks. Walter Mazzarri’s team sits in the middle of the standings with 10 points, having failed to secure a win in its last three matches. The 1-1 draw with Kalamata followed losses to PAOK at Toumba (2-1) and Kifissia (3-2).
Despite these results, the “Old Man” has shown consistency in scoring, finding the back of the net in each of its last three matches. Their biggest challenge, however, lies on the defensive end, as they have conceded 6 goals in those same matches.
As for the lineup, Heraklis will be without Nemanja Radoja, while Ivi López returns. For Panathinaikos, the suspended Kings Kangwa, as well as Viktor Christiansen and Azedine Ounai, are out of the lineup.
It is worth noting that the last time the two teams met in Thessaloniki was in 2017, when they played to a 1-1 draw. Finally, the police issued a ban on Panathinaikos fans at Kaftanzoglio Stadium.
The “green” squad consists of: Penia, Chaves, Kotsaris, Kalabria, Tsapras, Kyriakopoulos, Salah – Edin, De Vrij, Van Drongelen, Palmer – Brown, Katris, Louza, Kamara, Tsiriveya, Kontouris, Taborda, Jagusic, Pelistri, Adino, Levi Garcia, Tetei, Desers, Rastonder.
Possible Starting Lineups:
Heraklis (3-4-3): Athanasiadis – Vouros, Pinia, Tsakla – Soria, Krainz, Sourlis, Nanou – Silva, Marques, López.
Panathinaikos (4-4-2): Penya – Kyriakopoulos, Calabria, Van Drongelen, De Vrij – Kamara, Louza, Antino, Taborda – Tetei, Desers.
