“If my presence in the party and in the country becomes pointless, I would leave politics,” says the DISY lawmaker
Appearing as a guest on “25 Minutes” on “Alpha on Sunday,” Giorgos Pamboridis argues that the Democratic Rally made a mistake in endorsing Averof Neophytou. As he points out, if he had announced his candidacy outside of party procedures, he would have been expelled from the party within 48 hours.
Noting that, if he were to receive the nomination, DISY would not again face such devastating dilemmas, the MP states that it would be politically unethical not to support Averof Neophytou if the Synergatikos base chooses him.
Giorgos Pamporidis argues that DISY has enormous political differences with the Christodoulides government. He states that ELAM cannot participate in its own government, with the exception of a broader national effort to resolve the Cyprus problem, while emphasizing that party officials have a duty to take a stand rather than remain silent.
At the same time, he states that if his presence becomes counterproductive for the party and the country, he will leave politics. He denies that he is interested in the DISY presidency and acknowledges that his political choices over the years have undoubtedly cost him in the current internal party process.
