The Air Force, a strong pillar of our national defense, is entering a new era, with modern 5th-generation fighter jets, advanced air defense and anti-missile systems, and UAVs, as Greece’s Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, in a post on social media platform X, on the feast day of the Patron Saint of the Air Force, Archangel Michael.

“Happy anniversary to the pilots, who defend our national sovereignty in the skies every day, as well as to all the women and men of our Air Force, on the feast day of their patron, the Archangel Michael,” the Minister said.

He noted that “the modernized transport fleet will soon be expanded to include 3 KC –390 Millennium aircraft will soon be added to our modernized transport fleet, providing new operational capabilities through aerial refueling,” and emphasized that “for the first time, Greece will have a presence in space, with the imminent launch of the Space Command and the integration of a series of satellites into operational planning, as well as into national communications control.”

“The most valuable asset of the Air Force, however, is its personnel. They serve as a shield for the country, but also as a vital pillar of Greek society, through air ambulance missions, search and rescue, and aerial firefighting, wherever and whenever required,” noted the Greek Minister of National Defense.

“Especially today, our thoughts turn with respect and gratitude to those who took off to defend the Fatherland and never landed. ‘Aien Ypsikratein,’” Mr. Dendias concluded.
