Arrogance in Politics

An incomprehensible conflict that inflicted a massive economic wound on the country

An incomprehensible conflict that inflicted a massive economic wound on the country

Arrogance in politics comes at a price. No matter who someone is, no matter how prominent their name may be, when arrogance is their defining trait and they act on it while in power, then the harbinger of their downfall goes to work.

This is exactly what happened in the case of the all-powerful Donald Trump. He managed to fool the American people once—in his first election—but not the second time. Because while American citizens may have given him the ticket to enter the Oval Office for a second term, in the midterms they sent him a clear message: that, in the end, we were wrong!

According to the findings of exit polls—and even

the remarks made by Vice President Jay D. Vance immediately after the Democrats’ defeat, many Republicans who voted for Trump in 2021 switched sides in the 2026 midterms and voted for Democrats. In other words, they didn’t settle for a mere protest vote driven by dissatisfaction; instead, they chose the opponent—and therein lies the essence of Trump’s major defeat, as well as that of the entire Trump movement, which has begun to crumble.

Trump is a politician who exploited American citizens to the fullest to return to power, only to subsequently cast them into the abyss of broken promises.

He railed against Joe Biden over the U.S. economy. He accused him of terrible economic policy, of destroying Americans’ purchasing power, and of causing prices to rise during his term. He even cornered him over his energy policy. He built his campaign narrative around the economy in order to knock out Biden—and subsequently Kamala Harris. He promised to strengthen the economy and lower the cost of living, as he declared wherever he went.

In August 2024, at a campaign rally in Montana, he said in his characteristic style: “From day one, we will end inflation and make America an affordable country again.” As for energy, during the same period he declared: “Under my administration, we will cut energy prices in half.”

Not only did American citizens see none of this come to pass, but a war also broke out. A war of the president’s own choosing, without clear objectives, and without any results. An incomprehensible conflict that opened a massive economic wound in the country. A Moody’s analysis estimates that the cost to each American household from the war with Iran amounts to $2,147. The total cost of the ongoing war, according to the Pentagon, stood at $47.1 billion as of October!

Trump’s “I’ll do whatever I want” philosophy also extended to matters of corruption. He threatened to target Joe Biden and his family during his presidency. “I will appoint a real special prosecutor to go after the most corrupt president in U.S. history, Joe Biden, and the entire criminal Biden family.” He said this in June 2023.

Without hesitation and driven by arrogance, when he took office for the second time, he did everything he hadn’t done the first time around. He and his family grew even richer. He placed friends and relatives in key positions, such as his son-in-law Jared Kushner, who does business in the Middle East. The Democrats were waiting for him around the corner…They are fully prepared to open investigations into Trump’s business dealings, cryptocurrencies, the Epstein cases, as well as projects and agreements that pass through the White House.

In just over two years—which feel like an eternity—with everything he did and didn’t do, he managed to drive his approval rating down to a historic low of 32%. In two years, when he hands over the keys to Washington, his legacy—as all signs indicate—will be… the ballrooms, the “VETO” hats, the renaming of lakes and oceans, and expressions like “Kiss my a…” on Fox News, while talking about Republican Senator John Cornyn.
