A serious allegation has been made that a 10-year-old girl was beaten by a group of five classmates at an elementary school in Nicosia.
As reported by Christoforos Nestoros on Alpha TV’s main newscast, the incident—which was reported by the girl’s parents to the Omorfita police station— took place at 10 a.m. during sports activities on the school playground when, for a trivial reason—because, according to the complaint, the girl celebrated a goal scored by her team— a team of her peers, all of whom are of immigrant background, attacked her.
In fact, as the child’s father reported to Alpha, there was no teacher present to prevent the beating. As a result, the child was taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where it was determined that he had abrasions, bruises, and a concussion.
Meanwhile, as the father told Alpha, this was not the first time his child had been attacked by the group of minors, and the child is afraid to return to school.
When we contacted the police, they referred us to the Ministry of Education and Social Welfare Services, which will handle the incident, since those involved are under 14 and are not criminally liable. However, the father says he is determined to see this through to the end.
