Police arrested a 26-year-old man as part of an investigation into serious traffic violations, a traffic collision, and leaving the scene without rendering aid.
According to the evidence under review, shortly after 10:00 a.m. yesterday, October 24, on Independence Street, in Limassol, a member of the Bicycle Patrol signaled a driver to pull over for a traffic stop. The driver accelerated to evade the check and, at a certain point on the road, he collided with the police officer on the bicycle, who had been following him, again calling on him to stop for the check.
Following the collision, the driver of the car fled the scene without providing assistance and continued on his way, driving dangerously at high speed and in the opposite lane, and ran a red light at an intersection.
Investigations revealed that the registered owner of the vehicle involved is a 26-year-old man. He was located shortly before 11:00 a.m. today and, after being arrested pursuant to a court warrant, was taken into custody for police questioning.
The Limassol Traffic Police Department is continuing its investigation.
The member of the Bicycle Patrol went to a clinic in Limassol yesterday, where it was determined that he had sustained injuries to his leg and neck. He received medical treatment and was discharged later yesterday.
