The cross-examination of the complainant by defense attorneys Christos Pourgouridis and Nontas Korakidis was completed on Tuesday, as part of the trial of the suspended Mayor of Paphos, Faidon Faidonos, before the Permanent Criminal Court sitting in Paphos.

The cross-examination lasted three days, following the complainant’s main testimony, which had lasted two days. The proceedings were held behind closed doors, with the judges and attorneys present in the Criminal Courtroom, while the suspended mayor was in an adjacent room during her testimony.

The court set the next hearing for November 2 at 9:00 a.m., at which time the last two prosecution witnesses are expected to testify, according to reports.  One of them is a businessman who has not yet testified due to illness and hospitalization at a private hospital in Nicosia. However, it remains unclear whether he will appear in person before the Paphos Criminal Court to testify.

According to reports, the trial is expected to conclude before the end of 2026.

The suspended Mayor of Paphos faces five charges relating to rape, indecent assault against a woman, indecent assault against a woman involving another act, assault resulting in actual bodily harm, and administering a drug or other substance capable of sedating or incapacitating a person.

He has pleaded not guilty to all five charges.
