The Nicosia Permanent Criminal Court set Tuesday, November 17, 2026, as the date for closing arguments by the prosecution and the defense attorney for Giorgos Christodoulou Zavrantonas, as part of the retrial of the case involving the possession of 15 kilograms of cocaine with intent to distribute.
The case is being retried after the Court of Appeals overturned the 22-year prison sentence imposed on the defendant due to a miscarriage of justice.
At the previous hearing, the court, in a unanimous decision, ruled that there was a prima facie case against the defendant and summoned him to enter a plea.
During today’s proceedings, Zavrantonas’s defense attorney stated that his client would not make a voluntary statement, as had been indicated at the previous hearing, choosing instead to exercise his right to remain silent.
