Rumors about Rubio are running rampant: Speculation about his resignation ahead of the 2028 election, which he denies

The head of U.S. diplomacy, Marco Rubio, denied yesterday, Thursday, during an interview with The New York Times, speculation that he intends to leave Donald Trump’s administration following the Republicans’ sweeping defeat in the midterm elections.

“It has always been my intention” to continue working in the Trump administration until the end of its term, the secretary told the newspaper.

Mr. Rubio, who in addition to serving as Secretary of State is also the president’s national security adviser, is considered a potential candidate to succeed the Republican tycoon in the 2028 election.

A few days before the midterm elections, he appeared alongside Donald Trump and spoke briefly during a campaign rally.

In his interview with the New York newspaper, Marco Rubio chose not to comment on his political future, other than to say that “I will no longer be talking about 2028.”

“I don’t know where that information came from, to be honest,” he added when asked about reports regarding his alleged departure from the administration.

Bloomberg reported yesterday that Marco Rubio is considering leaving the administration to run for president, adding that he has not yet made a decision.

The news agency also noted that he discussed the possibility with other White House officials, but they urged him to remain in the administration.

Dylan Johnson, Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy, categorically rejected the report, which he called a “fabrication” and “completely” made up.

The head of U.S. diplomacy has repeatedly stated, a point he reiterated yesterday in the NYT, that he would support the potential candidacy of his “very good friend,” Vice President Jay D. Vance, should the latter announce it.

At least at this stage, observers consider Vice President Vance to be the most likely potential successor to Donald Trump in the Republican Party.
