Aris’s victory over Panathinaikos (101-91) took on historic significance. This is the first time in 34 years that the “yellow-and-blacks” have beaten the “greens” by 100 points without going into overtime.
The last time they did so in a 40-minute game was on March 4, 1992, when, with 31 points from Nikos Galis and 18 from Lefteris Subotic, they prevailed 100–81 at the “Alexandrio.”
That season, 1991–92, Aris had also scored 100 points in a victory—in an away game that was ultimately decided in double overtime with a score of 114–121 (94–94 in regulation).
At the same time, Aris defeated Panathinaikos at home for the second consecutive season during the regular season, having also prevailed in last year’s corresponding game 102-95 in overtime. This marked their first back-to-back home wins in these derbies since the 2015–16 season. Back then, in the 2-2-1 format of the playoff semifinals, Aris Thessaloniki won Game 3 of the semifinals 77-68 and Game 4 56-50.
However, we have to go back to the turn of the millennium to find the last time Aris defeated Panathinaikos AKTOR in two consecutive home games during the regular season. It was during the four-year period from 1996 to 2000 that the “Yellows” put together a four-game winning streak at home:
* In 1996–97, 81–80 (Ortiz 22, Stavrakopoulos 15 – Alvertis 23, Koch 20).
* In 1997–98, 69–64 (Ortiz 19, Paspali 18 – Raja 22, Koch 13)
* In 1998–99, 68–61 (Liadelis 22, Sioutis 17 – Bodiroga 21, Raja 20).
* In 1999–00, 64–61 (Liadelis 22, Arlaoukas 11 – Bodiroga 19, Alvertis 16)
