Anorthosis, now a better team, has run out of steam and… solutions

"the lady" came away from the derby empty-handed
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Anorthosis threatened, took the lead, and fought hard, but left the “Alphamega Stadium” after being hurt by Matisik in the final moments and suffering a 2-1 loss to Aris in the 8th matchday of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan.

Barack Itzaki’s team came out strong, applying pressure and maintaining defensive cohesion. This approach paid off, as “The Lady” managed to take control of the match and open the scoring in the 29th minute with an own goal by Kaloulos.

From that point on, Anorthosis sought to manage its lead, absorbing the pressure from Aris, and as a result went into halftime with the lead. However, the forced substitution of Furtado due to injury affected the team’s defensive organization, and they gradually began to lose their balance. The home team stepped up the pressure and, with the crossbar on their side, persistently sought the equalizer, which finally came in the 60th minute courtesy of Efaghe. As if that weren’t enough, the Israeli coach also saw Mindenrop leave the field with an injury, facing yet another setback during the match.

Afterward, the Famagusta team showed a determination to hold on to the lead, withstanding the pressure from the “Light Brigade.” In fact, they managed to find the back of the net through Ilias, but the goal was disallowed for offside at the start of the play. And while it looked as though the match would end in a draw, Aris had the last word, scoring the winning goal in stoppage time and leaving “Kyriá” with the bitter taste of defeat.

Anorthosis may have left Limassol empty-handed, but its performance in the first half and the fighting spirit it displayed at various points are elements it can build upon moving forward. It is clear, of course, that Barak Itzaki and his coaching staff still have plenty of work ahead of them to improve the team’s performance and achieve greater consistency.

All eyes are now on the next matchday, where “The Lady” faces yet another challenging match, this time against Omonia at the “Freedom Antonis Papadopoulos” Stadium (November 8, 4:00 p.m.). With the support of its fans, the team will seek to bounce back and return to winning ways.
