Simon Banza has really started to find his rhythm in the PAOK jersey, confirming his strong form in the Cup derby against AEK.
The 30-year-old forward earned his first start under Alessio Lisi, forming an attacking duo with Serif Ndiaye, and it took him just eight minutes to prove his coach’s decision was the right one.
With a header, he opened the scoring for the “Double-Headed Eagle of the North” in their 3-1 victory over Enosis and has now scored three goals in the black-and-white jersey. What’s impressive is that he’s found the back of the net in three consecutive games, having previously scored against Heraklis and OFI.
In fact, of the games in which he has seen playing time recently, the only one in which he did not score was his debut against Kalamata, when he played for just 16 minutes.
This was followed by a goal against Heraklis, the one against OFI, and now the goal against AEK, with Banza showing that he is adapting more and more and giving Lisi another reliable option on offense.
His goal laid the groundwork for PAOK’s big 3-1 victory over AEK. Although the “yellow-and-blacks” equalized through Jović and missed key chances to turn the game around, the Thessaloniki side retook the lead through Soretire, before Entiaye sealed the final score.
With this victory, PAOK bounced back from its recent poor results in the league and moved up to seven points in the League Phase of the Cup, before turning its attention to the home game against Asteras AKTOR.
