Fasoulas: “The EOK board of directors should resign—they did not respect my basketball history”

He took a stance on the scandal

Panagiotis Fasoulas called on the EOK Board of Directors to resign so that elections for a new federation leadership could be held, in a statement made on SKAI, in the wake of the scandal involving alleged match-fixing.

“I feel terrible; it’s been a very dark week for basketball, and things need to move quickly so this dark cloud can lift. What has happened is unthinkable. Who targets young players to favor some and wrong others? This—and more—has destroyed people’s trust in basketball. Personally, I had warned about what I was seeing, but I was ridiculed and subjected to personal attacks, with no respect for my history in basketball. “I decided to remain silent for the past two years,” emphasized the Greek basketball legend and candidate in previous federation elections.

“There are court rulings that clearly demonstrate the existence of a criminal organization, and the Hellenic Basketball Federation’s leadership must resign immediately to make things easier for the Minister. If they are not accomplices, they are complicit in what happened. They, too, must step down—it is the least they can do—so that the Minister can appoint a court-appointed administration to oversee the Hellenic Basketball Federation’s elections. They must disappear from the world of basketball. Basketball must have a court of first instance administration made up of people who haven’t kowtowed to the system for so many years. I’m not seeking any positions or titles; my concern is moving basketball forward. “Is it possible that Fanis Christodoulou received fewer votes in the previous election than a gym employee in Karpenisi?” he added.
