Mourinho after El Clásico: “I won’t let anyone get carried away.”

What he said after the “double”

Satisfied with Real Madrid’s big win at Camp Nou, but without allowing any prolonged celebrations, José Mourinho spoke after the Clásico. The Portuguese coach highlighted the maturity, organization, and character of his players, while making it clear that the result against Barcelona will only have real value if the team can build on it.

“It was a great game, of a very high standard. The players put on an excellent performance; they were very organized and focused, and they showed character against an opponent that puts a lot of pressure on us,” he noted initially, adding that Real had opportunities to extend its lead earlier.

Mourinho emphasized that his team kept its composure even when Barcelona ramped up the pressure. “We could have won by luck, but we won with composure and on our own merit. It’s a great victory against a great opponent, and the players deserved it,” he said.

At the same time, he complained about a play in the 60th minute, arguing that Cancelo should have been sent off for a foul on Diomande. On the other hand, he had positive things to say about the referee’s overall performance, drawing a distinction between the referee’s own decisions and the VAR’s interventions.

The Portuguese coach particularly emphasized the mindset his entire team has developed following the difficult moments of the past few weeks. Real Madrid has now won five straight games, but he refused to view the Clásico as the end of the road.

“It’s a big win, but when we get back to work, I won’t let anyone get carried away. If we win here and then lose at El Sardinero, this victory loses its very meaning. Real Madrid isn’t playing just to win at Camp Nou. We’re playing to win the league. We have to keep going,” was his clear message.

He also made special mention of Federico Valverde, revealing that he played through an injury for more than 40 minutes. “He was injured, but he wanted to keep going, to push himself to the limit. He gave it his all while he was on the field,” he said of the Uruguayan.

Mourinho also praised Cucurella’s performance against Lamine Yamal, as well as the help provided by Diomande, limiting the situations in which Barcelona could create a numerical advantage on that particular flank.

When asked whether this victory could be credited to both the players and the coach, Mourinho did not change his stance. “No, to the players. That’s the life of a coach. It’s much harder to be out on the field playing than to be on the bench making decisions. I’m very happy for them. They deserve it,” he replied.
