Sakkari lost 2-1 in sets (5-7, 6-3, 4-6) in the semifinals to Alexandra Ila and will not be able to compete for the Hong Kong Open title.

In a match that was frequently interrupted by rain, she lost the first set 7-5 to the Filipino player but managed to come back with a 6-3 win in the second set before losing the third 6-4.
Ila found herself leading 4-3; Sakkari saved several break points to tie the score at 4-4, but Ila made it 5-4, and a double fault by the Greek player gave the 21-year-old a double match point, which she converted to seal her big victory.
