Dimos Stasinopoulos commented on the latest developments in Greek basketball. “My goal of getting this man out of Greek basketball was achieved today,” he noted regarding the decision by the president of the Greek Basketball Federation (EOK) to remain suspended from basketball while legal proceedings regarding match-fixing are ongoing.
Dimos Stasinopoulos’s statement in full:
“The biggest scandal in the history of Greek sports is now in the hands of the justice system.
Having full confidence in the institutions and the justice system, I believe that the truth will come to light and the crime will be punished. My goal of removing this man from Greek basketball has been achieved today.
Now, all of us who selflessly love sports and basketball must defend it and make it number one in Europe once again.
So, my first proposal is this: the leadership of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK) should form a new administration under the leadership of Panagiotis Giannakis. He is a man whose history is inextricably linked to the history of Greek basketball.
He should be joined by “diamonds”—outstanding individuals and athletes of unquestionable prestige. Fortunately, thank God, we have many such “gems” who can pull basketball out of the mire.
Second, it is time for an institutional revolution. Refereeing must become professional, independent, and free from outside influence—following the standards of the NBA, the Spanish League, and other advanced organizations on the international stage. To permanently eradicate the “seeds of evil” from Greek basketball. Forever.”
