On Wednesday night (November 4) across all of Europe as Cesc Fàbregas’s Como, with Tasos Douvikas as the undisputed star, crushed Lens 1–9 in France, in the fourth matchday of the Champions League.
The Greek striker scored a hat trick and provided an assist, becoming the tournament’s leading scorer this season with 6 goals, naturally earning the Man of the Match award and praise from the European soccer community.
Naturally, this score prompted many to look up the biggest away wins in the history of European cup competitions. And the truth is that Como’s victory does not set a record. The record has been held by Feyenoord since 1972, when they won 0–12 at Roumelange’s home stadium in the first round of the UEFA Cup.
In fact, the Dutch team also holds second place on that list, since a year earlier, in 1971, they had defeated Olympiacos 0-9 in the first round of the European Cup, now known as the Champions League.
