Police investigations are ongoing into the incident that occurred at a Halloween party in Limassol, during which 13 minors had to be taken to hospitals, after consuming alcoholic beverages.

Speaking on the “Alpha Kalimera” program about the case, Lefteris Kyriakou, Assistant Police Director of Operations in Limassol, stated that the party was originally scheduled to take place in a different venue; however, at the last minute, the organizers informed the students that the venue had changed and that the event would take place at a nightclub on Limassol’s coastal boulevard. This is a summer venue that is currently closed for the season, but the organizer appears to have rented the space to host this party.

As he explained, the high school students had already prepaid for their admission tickets, and the party was organized by private individuals and open to anyone who had secured a ticket, without being limited exclusively to students from specific schools.

According to the parents’ statements so far, they believed that no alcoholic beverages would be served at the party, only snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. In fact, as Mr. Kyriakou noted, the parents initially knew that the event would take place in a hall and not at a nightclub, and several of them even drove their children to the venue themselves after being informed of the last-minute change.

Regarding the circumstances under which minors consumed alcohol, Mr. Kyriakou stated that, according to witness accounts, there were initially no alcoholic beverages on the tables. Later, however, bottles of alcohol were placed on the tables alongside juices, which the children then consumed.

Commotion ensued when some minors began to feel ill, causing panic to break out and several children to rush out of the nightclub.

During the incident, a young man was also injured; he was initially taken to Limassol General Hospital and then to Makarios Hospital, where he is being treated for a head fracture. The circumstances of his injury are being investigated by the police.

Meanwhile, investigators are taking statements from the parents of minors who experienced problems after consuming alcohol, while both the party organizers and the business owner responsible for the venue are expected to be summoned for questioning.

As Mr. Kyriakou stated, the police are investigating whether any criminal offenses have been committed, and they will also gather information from the hospitals where the minors were taken, as well as the results of the medical tests they underwent.

At the same time, authorities are investigating whether the change in the party’s venue was made intentionally at the last minute, with the Assistant Police Director of Operations in Limassol noting that this has not yet been confirmed.

He appealed to parents to be particularly vigilant about the places their children go and the activities in which they participate, especially when it comes to minors aged 14, 15, and 16 years old.
