An investigation has been launched into a police officer who was caught on security camera throwing a flashbang grenade at a car and preventing its passengers from getting out, has been launched by the Israeli police.
In the video, which was recorded at the Kalandia refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, a uniformed Border Police officer is seen throwing the grenade through the open door and closing it as the driver tries to get out.
In the next few seconds, an explosion was heard and the car filled with smoke.
The car’s passengers exited from the other side of the vehicle as the Israeli officer opened fire. According to the organization B’Tselem, everyone in the car survived.
A spokesperson for the Israeli police told the country’s media that the officer did not act “in accordance with procedure” and added that the incident had been referred to the internal affairs department.
