Firefighting operations continue south of the Limassol – Paphos, despite the fire that broke out near the Pissouri exit shortly before 3:00 p.m., according to the latest update from the Fire Department.
Significant ground forces are operating at the scene, having protected individual homes in the area, while aerial firefighting aircraft continue to drop water.
The Chief Fire Officer and General Fire Coordinator is at the Operations Center at Fire Department Headquarters to coordinate efforts.
The police had closed the highway to traffic for public safety, but the road was reopened shortly after 4:00 p.m.
The Fire Service is supported by the British Bases, the Forestry Department, the Game and Wildlife Service, the District Administration, the Pissouri Community Council, and the volunteer groups Atlas-Zeus, Kitas Weather, SupportCY, Blue Heart, and Rescue 1.
