At least 100 people were killed in a landslide at an artisanal gold mine in the western Central African Republic, near the border with Cameroon, according to information gathered today by Agence France-Presse from local sources.
The tragedy occurred yesterday, Tuesday, at 2:00 p.m. (local time, 5:00 p.m. Greek time) at an artisanal gold mine in Zamboye, about 50 km from the city of Baboua in the Central African Republic. Search and rescue operations are underway.

Earlier, the German news agency had reported 33 deaths from the landslide. It was reported that the accident occurred in the border town of Garoua-Boulai in Cameroon, on the border with the Central African Republic.
