Anita Dimitriou, the party’s president and Speaker of the House, outlined the Democratic Alarm’s three proposals for reforming the pension system, to members of the General Secretariat of SEK.
Ms. Dimitriou noted that the Democratic Alarm is awaiting the submission of the relevant bills, along with the position of the Ministry of Finance, so that it can evaluate them comprehensively and contribute constructively to the debate before the House of Representatives.
DISY’s three key positions:
- Strengthening the adequacy of pensions so that retirees can live with dignity.
- Ensuring the system’s sustainability without increasing contributions or the retirement age, and without imposing new burdens on future generations.
- Comprehensive reform, following adequate preparation and dialogue with social partners, with clear provisions regarding the investment management of the Social Insurance Fund.
For his part, SEK General Secretary Andreas Matsas presented the union’s positions and concerns, emphasizing the adequacy of pensions, the sustainability of the Social Insurance Fund, and the protection of future generations. He made special mention of the 12% actuarial reduction and the potential impact the proposed measure may have on current and future retirees, as well as after the completion of the five-year transition period.
Tomorrow, a delegation from the Democratic Alarm, led by the party’s president, will meet with the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEVE) as part of the ongoing series of meetings.
