Petevinos on Zivanaris’s resignation, investment plan, and match details against Anorthosis

Statements by the APOEL press officer
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Following Kyriakos Zivanaris’s resignation as president of the APOEL Club and Kostas Schizas’s assumption of the position, the agreement with Savvas Liasis’s investment group, and the team’s competitive situation ahead of the match against Anorthosis, the press spokesperson for the “blue-and-yellows,” Nektarios Petevinos, in statements he made to SuperSport 104.

In detail:

On Zivanaris’s resignation and the Liasis issue: “Mr. Zivanaris’s departure is a personal choice—it’s up to each person to decide when to bring their chapter to a close. Let’s thank him and welcome Mr. Schizas, who is taking over in a pivotal year. We do not believe there is any delay resulting from Mr. Zivanaris’s departure. Everything is being handled by technocrats, and we await the final outcome. We have not scheduled a meeting with the Cyprus Football Association (CFA). How many times have we heard and seen talk of major dates and significant events? The end of the process is not today or tomorrow. This has been demonstrated by all aspects of the investment agreement. And the response from both UEFA and the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) will not be negative; they are trying to help the clubs. Has UEFA ever refused to accept a change in management in other cases? The issue of the timeframe falls under the exception to the rule. That is what is being discussed.”

On the match against Anorthosis: “You’re always looking forward to the next game, but when you’re coming off a good result, it’s easier to lose your focus. The coach also said that they’ll celebrate for just one day, and then a new day begins with their thoughts focused solely on the next game.”

On team news: “All the players have been registered and are available to the coach. Barak and Bakasetas still lack match fitness but are in good physical condition. Vrontis has started training.”

On the team’s training sessions: “Mr. Papadopoulos said that it’s very important for the training sessions at our training center to be high-intensity so that they simulate the game that will take place on the field.”

On transfers and finances: “If you make four signings now, it doesn’t mean you’ll have to pay four salaries. Strengthening the team is a long-term process with a payroll that’s roughly the same as last year. APOEL’s revenue at the moment comes from player sales, season tickets, and certain other sources.”

Regarding the fans: “For every away game APOEL plays, we receive very few tickets to meet the needs of our fans.”
