Russians Pound Kyiv: Seven Killed in Airstrikes

The possibility of resuming talks is remote
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Attacks by Russian armed forces using unmanned aerial attack systems claimed the lives of seven people yesterday, Friday, in broad daylight in the Ukrainian capitalcapital of Kyiv, while Russian President Vladimir Putin hinted that he would not order the resumption of peace talks for the time being.

Russia “will think it over carefully” before resuming talks, following the Ukrainian drone strikes on September 20 — the final day of the parliamentary elections — President Putin said.

“Proposals to resume talks, yes, are indeed on the table (…) but after everything they (the Ukrainians) have done, we will think carefully about how we should respond,” the Russian president said.

“I would also like to emphasize once again that we are not preparing for any kind of conflict with Europe,” he continued, attempting to allay the concerns being voiced in increasingly strident tones within the eastern wing of the EU and NATO.

Earlier yesterday, a drone attack on an office building in Kyiv killed seven people, including a 14-year-old, and wounded 46 others, said Vitali Klitschko, mayor of the Ukrainian capital.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry stated that the teenager was an Israeli citizen and that his mother is among the injured.

Meanwhile, one person was killed in the Odessa region (southwest) during an attack on a post office building, according to authorities.

Firefighters and medical personnel had to urgently evacuate seven patients from a hospital in Zaporizhzhia during Russian drone strikes, which damaged the building and caused a fire. Two people were injured.

Ukraine, whose territory has been under almost daily bombardment by Russian drones and missiles for over four and a half years, has been escalating its own attacks on Russia in recent months, targeting primarily military and energy infrastructure.

On the night of Thursday into Friday, two oil refineries, a factory producing military equipment, and radar stations in various Russian regions were targeted, Zelenskyy reported via Telegram. “We are retaliating against Russia’s barbaric attacks on civilians,” he added.

A couple was killed in a Ukrainian drone strike in the Belgorod region, on the Russian side of the border between the two countries, according to local authorities.

The Ukrainian president, moreover, claimed that U.S. President Donald Trump had made “a final decision” to grant Ukraine licenses to produce interceptor missiles for the U.S.-designed Patriot systems, which are essential for Kyiv to intercept Russian ballistic missiles.

“President Trump confirmed to me that yes, he has made a final decision: Ukraine will receive licenses to produce Patriot missiles,” he said in a recorded message addressed to journalists following his meeting with the U.S. president in New York this week.

If such licenses are indeed granted, this would represent a step forward for Kyiv, which is unable to procure sufficient quantities of PAC-3 interceptor missiles— the only missiles in the Ukrainian arsenal capable of shooting down Russian ballistic missiles.
