The resumption of the French league had a huge surprise in store for Ligue 1 fans, as Lens managed to pull off a stunning victory over Lyon with a final score of 2-1, even while playing a man down from the 84th minute onward and facing the threat of a potential comeback by the “Lions”!
And yet, goals by Sotoka (36’) and Udol (77’) proved enough for the… upset, with the scorer of the second goal being the very player who received a straight red card in the 84th minute.
Lyon, with Mera, managed to pull one back and put pressure on the home team in the 85th minute, but the 2-1 score held for a result that many hadn’t expected at the restart of the Ligue 1 season.
It’s worth noting that this was Lens’s first win since the season opener; their last victory in Ligue 1 came in the first matchday, a 5-2 win over Auxerre.
