Inter Miami saw its impressive three-game winning streak come to an end in the early hours of the morning following a 2-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls. Despite Lionel Messi coming on as a substitute in the second half (56′), the MLS champions were unable to mount a comeback and suffered their first loss after three straight wins.
The scoring opened in the 7th minute with an own goal by Casemiro, who stuck out his foot to block a cross from the right and sent the ball into his own net. The visitors came close to equalizing in the second half, but Telasco Segovia’s shot hit the crossbar, and in the 91st minute Emil Forsberg made it 2-0.
That brought an end to a 13-game streak—spanning matches with Inter Miami and the Argentine national team—in which the Argentine superstar had either a goal or an assist.
The result left his team tied for second place in the MLS Eastern Conference with the New England Revolution, while Nashville remains in first place with a +15 goal differential after 31 matches.
