Julian Alvarez’s relationship with the Atlético Madrid fans is on the mend. The Argentine forward was constantly booed by the “Roji-Blancos” crowd at the start of the season, as they couldn’t forgive him for publicly expressing his desire to transfer to Barcelona. After scoring the winning goal against La Coruña—his first in the league—Álvarez publicly apologized in an effort to… bury the hatchet with the Madrid fans.
“I wanted to apologize to our fans for what I said during the World Cup. I was wrong, both in the way I expressed my thoughts and in the timing of my remarks. I completely understand why they were angry. If I were in their shoes, I’d feel the same way, especially when I think about how much support they’ve shown me. They’ve treated me with great generosity, and I’m truly grateful to them. I also want to thank my teammates for standing by me throughout this entire period,” added the Argentine.
