In a three-page letter dated October 14, 2020, the former Metropolitan of Paphos, Tychikos, explains the reasons why he is declining the invitation from Archbishop of Cyprus, Georgios, to participate in today’s meeting of the Holy Synod, which took place this morning and, among other things, examined the content of letters sent to priests in the Paphos district regarding the establishment of a new ecclesiastical structure.
The clergyman is protesting the change in his title from “Metropolitan of Paphos (ret.)” to “former ‘Bishop of Paphos’” without his prior knowledge, while he claims that his previous attendance at a meeting of the Holy Synod was turned into a judicial proceeding, with him as the defendant. He maintains that this incident worsened his health, resulting in cardiac problems.

At the same time, he requests that the Holy Synod clearly and fully inform him of the items on the Holy Synod’s agenda to be discussed, and he expresses his readiness to respond in writing to the issues that concern him. He also denounces the unbearable pressure, humiliation, and ridicule he endured during his presence at the Body’s last session.

Tychikos also requests permission to officiate in his hometown and to conduct memorial services for his relatives.
