A tradition passed down from generation to generation was revived again this year in Tillyria, where students spelled out the word “NO” with fire, commemorating the anniversary of October 28, 1940.
In a statement, the president of the Kato Pyrgos Community Council of Tillyria and president of the Tillyria Community Cluster, Nikos Kleanthous, refers to the enduring significance of the “NO” of 1940, emphasizing that it remains a symbol of struggle even today.
As he notes, the custom has been passed down from generation to generation, “taking on special significance for the Tillyria region, where historical memory and the spirit of struggle are an important part of the collective identity”. Nikos Kleanthous congratulates the students for their participation and for carrying on this tradition, expressing his pride in the younger generation that keeps the message of the anniversary alive.
