The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, is meeting today, Friday, with the President of the Republic, Nicos Christodoulides, who recently described the coming days as crucial in relation to the Cyprus issue.
As announced, President Christodoulides will hold a private meeting with Ms. Olguín at 12:30 p.m. at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.
Ms. Olgin, who was expected to arrive on the island late Thursday night, is expected, according to reports, to meet on Monday morning with the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, Tufan Erhurman. As the UN has already announced, Ms. Olgin is scheduled to hold a joint meeting with President Christodoulides and Mr. Erhurman on November 9.
Arriving Thursday at the State Fairgrounds for the 9th National Skills Competition, SkillsCyprus 2026, and when asked if he sees a window of opportunity for the resumption of substantive talks, particularly in light of Ms. Olgin’s visit to Cyprus, the President of the Republic said that “as far as I am concerned, I will do everything possible to ensure that this window of opportunity exists.”
He added that “although I do not downplay the difficulties, challenges, and problems, I am constantly coming up with new ideas and new approaches—always within the established framework—so that we can succeed in opening this window.”
