The Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, reiterated the position that there can be no sustainable and definitive settlement of the Cyprus issue without safeguarding the rights and interests of Turkish Cypriots, during his meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman in Ankara.
The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace in Turkey, on the occasion of the Turkish Cypriot leader’s attendance at the 13th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States. According to a statement from the Turkish Presidency, the discussions focused on Turkey’s relations with the pseudo-state, as well as on issues of regional interest.

Special mention was made of the pseudo-state’s participation in the Organization of Turkic States, with Erdogan expressing his satisfaction with its representation in the Organization’s proceedings. At the same time, the Turkish President reiterated the assurance that Ankara will continue to provide its support to the pseudo-state, insisting that any effort to resolve the Cyprus issue must, according to the Turkish position, take into account the rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot community.
The talks were attended by senior officials from the Turkish Presidency and the ruling AKP, including the party’s vice president, Kürşat Zorlu, the Presidency’s Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, and the director of Erdoğan’s private office, Hasan Doğan. Also present were Foreign Policy and Security Advisor Akif Çagatay Kılıç and Vice Chairman of the Security and Foreign Policy Council Çağri Erhan.
Despite references to the Cyprus issue and cooperation between Ankara and the occupied territories, the official briefing does not include any announcement regarding new agreements, specific decisions, or next steps agreed upon during the meeting.
