In the early hours of Friday (October 30), a 46-year-old Navy officer carried out two arson attacks against his former partners within a span of just 15 minutes a 46-year-old Navy officer in Glyfada.

In the video footage presented by protothema.gr, the 46-year-old can be seen standing outside his ex-partner’s apartment at 2 a.m., taking advantage of her absence, and looking at the security camera at the entrance.

He is wearing a hood and gloves, and his face is fully covered. He takes an envelope, covers the camera lens so he won’t be recorded, and enters the apartment. He then set the apartment on fire using a flammable liquid he had brought with him in a jerry can.

Just 15 minutes later, at 2:35 a.m., he reportedly went to another street, also in Glyfada, where he set fire to the cars of another ex-partner, a 55-year-old woman, and her current partner, a 51-year-old man.

According to the same reports, the 46-year-old serves in the Navy and had previously come to the attention of the authorities in connection with a domestic violence case. Initially, the Navy officer was arrested, but the Naval Court subsequently ruled that he must remain free because he is a member of the Navy. The case is under investigation by the relevant authorities.

“I had told him that I couldn’t take it anymore and that I wanted to break up.”

The woman who saw her home in Glyfada reduced to ashes by the 46-year-old naval officer describes the moments of terror she experienced in recent days at the hands of her ex-partner to protothema.gr, the woman who watched her home in Glyfada burn to the ground at the hands of the 46-year-old Navy officer. At the time of the arson, the victim was at work, and as soon as she saw on her cell phone that the apartment’s security cameras weren’t working, she called her sister to find out what was happening.

Her sister then replied, “He set the house on fire,” and the woman’s suspicions immediately turned to the 46-year-old man from whom she had separated a week earlier.

“I’d told him last Saturday that I couldn’t take it anymore and wanted to break up. He wouldn’t accept it, so I left him and went to my parents’ house. After we broke up, he kept calling me and sending me messages, but he hadn’t threatened me. Until, at one point, we got into an argument; he cursed at me vulgarly and grabbed me to throw me to the ground,” says the victim of the 46-year-old man, describing how she realized her ex had broken into her home.

“He had come to the house earlier, picked up his clothes, and I saw him on the security camera. I was at work that night, and when I checked the cameras, I couldn’t see anything. I called my sister, and she told me, ‘He set the house on fire,’ and that’s when I realized it was him. I knew that there had been a previous complaint against him from another girl, but I don’t know who she is.”

The Mysterious Arson in Neo Heraklion

Several hours later, at 4:40, there was another car arson in Neo Heraklion, and authorities are investigating whether it is linked to the 46-year-old Navy officer who was initially arrested and then released.

Investigators are examining whether there is a connection to the 46-year-old, as the car that went up in flames also belonged to his former partner; however, the investigation is still ongoing.
