Residents and livestock farmers are up in arms over the transport of contaminated bales of hay to the Trullon area, from livestock farms in Oroklini where foot-and-mouth disease was detected.
The Veterinary Services are moving the hay bales to a pit in a rural area of Troulon with the intention of destroying them by burning, however, this is taking place near livestock farms that are operating normally. It is worth noting that no livestock farm in the Troulon area has been diagnosed with foot-and-mouth disease to date.
Livestock farmers in Troulon say they are ready to mobilize their tractors to block the transport of hay bales.

According to reports, today’s transport of hay bales is a continuation of a previous operation that took place a few days ago, which was suspended following the intervention of Agriculture Minister Christos Senekis, who was informed of the reactions and concerns of local livestock farmers.
Mr. Senekis reportedly issued the same instructions today, pending a briefing from the Larnaca District Council of Veterinary Services.
