This coming Sunday marks the start of a month of internal party elections for DISY, with Averof Neophytou and Giorgos Pamporidis preparing for a month of campaigning filled with meetings, events, and public appearances.
The
main goal for both is to rally support around their candidacy in a vote expected to draw thousands of DISY officials and rank-and-file members, who will select the party’s nominee for the presidential race.
However, the decision by the DISY Executive Bureau to prevent party officials from participating in public debates about the elections continues to spark heated discussions today, in the wake of the controversy sparked by Haris Georgiadis’s letter. According to party MP Charalambos Pazaros, this decision was not made to silence anyone, but to protect the process and the party as a whole.
However, while he himself believes he is not violating this moratorium on statements, he took jabs at party officials who have been saying… various things these days.
CHARALAMBOS PAZAROS – DISY Member of Parliament: “We are
here under the DISY umbrella, so if they don’t respect DISY, let them respect themselves. The Democratic Rally owes them nothing; they owe the party.”
With the elections looming, the first opinion polls have slowly begun to emerge, with *Fileleftheros* presenting particularly interesting data.
According to the poll’s findings, Averof Neophytou maintains a lead, garnering 51% of the vote when asked about their voting intentions, compared to 28% for Giorgos Pamboridis, while the percentage of undecided voters remains quite high.
