Atromitos vs. Volos: Both teams are on the ropes heading into their next matchup

For matchday 9
ALPHANEWSLIVE

A crucial match in Peristeri, with Atromitos hosting Volos (6:00 p.m.) for Matchday 9 of the Stoiximan Super League, in a rematch between the two teams after they faced off four days earlier in the Superbet Greek Cup.

At Panthessaliko Stadium, the Peristeri-based team secured their second “three points” in the competition, but in the league they have yet to taste victory and sit in second-to-last place in the standings with two points. On the other hand, today’s visitors are in an even worse situation, as they sit in last place with zero points after being deducted three points for match-fixing involving their games against Panserraikos in the 2025 playouts.

Let’s start, however, with Atromitos. Dusan Kerkez’s team caught a breather with a 3-1 win over Volos ELABET, even though the match wasn’t part of the league. The four consecutive losses had created a lot of pressure, and the result at Panthessaliko brought, if only for a moment, a sense of calm, with the “Star” scoring three goals in just 11 minutes (11’–22’)—by Ofori, Moutousami, and an own goal by Ayakua.

Atromitos is, naturally, with its back against the wall, as it remains winless in the league, and in today’s match it wants to put a stop to its downward spiral before things start getting worse in the standings.

Kerkez will be without Mitoglou, who is continuing his individual training program, as well as Nunes, who is participating in part of practice but isn’t quite ready yet. Danny Garcia took a blow to the hip in the game against Aris and was able to participate in Saturday’s practice (11/30) but was not included in the roster for today’s match.

Here is Atromitos’s roster in detail: Athanasiou, Houtesiotis, Dieng, Lyratzis, Moundes, Papadopoulos, Uronen, Magnusson, Stavropoulos, Tsakmakis, Hodja, Karamanis, Kotsis, Moutousami, Tsigaras, Serginio, Ofori, Penymonidis, Tzovaras, Tsouber, Perea, Tsantilas, Tsiloulis.

On the other side, Volos ELABET is in an equally difficult position. They, too, remain winless in the league, and last week’s (0-1) against Panathinaikos led to the dismissal of Kostas Bratsos from the bench.

Juan Carlos Garido was chosen to replace the Greek coach, but he got off to a rough start with a loss in the Superbet Greek Cup. However, he will aim to get off to a good start in the league, hoping for a positive result in Peristeri.

Off the field, we note that the appeal regarding the three points deducted from the Magnesia-based team for the match-fixing scandal involving Panserraikos was rejected, and the club’s powerful figure at the club, Achilleas Beos, called the decision a “disgrace,” making it clear that he will exhaust all legal avenues to seek vindication.

Garido cannot count on the suspended Medil, while Tasiouras and Es Saoubi were also left out. Here is the detailed Volos ELABET roster: Siabanis, Gerofokas, Gabriel, Mygas, Katsikas, Kargas, Ajiakua, Lykourinos, Lekes, Fabio, Neyiu, Bernitz, Komba, Grosdis, Garavelas, Regis, Gonzalez, Kampela, Tzoka, Furtado, Lambrou, Charalamboglou, Urtado.

Possible starting lineups:

Atromitos (Dušan Kerkez): Houtesiotis, Tsakmakis, Stavropoulos, Magnusson, Tsigaras, Karamanis, Moutousami, Papadopoulos, Serginio, Perea, Tsouber.
