The United Nations announced that the trilateral meeting between the leaders of the two communities and the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General will take place on the morning of November 9.

A press release from the United Nations in Cyprus states that “on Monday, November 9, 2026, at 11 a.m., the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, María Ángela Olguín, will welcome the Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhürman, and the Greek Cypriot leader, Nicos Christodoulides, at the residence of the Head of Mission, within the United Nations Protected Area.”

Furthermore, today the President of the Republic stated that he had spoken by phone with Ms. Olgin on Thursday morning, adding that “we are in a process that, based on the information available so far, appears to be leading to positive developments. We are in a waiting phase—the stage of final, if you will, responses—and, as the Personal Envoy also told me, we may have specific announcements by the end of the weekend.”

““The Secretary-General is being kept constantly informed, and I sincerely hope we will have positive developments to announce, as outlined, based on the information I am receiving from the Personal Envoy,” he emphasized.

When asked whether any developments are expected regarding the roadblocks, the President of the Republic recalled that the effort launched immediately after the UN Secretary-General’s visit to Cyprus concerned issues of methodology, substance, and confidence-building measures, noting that “the discussion is broader.”

“The anxiety and desire of the Cypriot people are entirely justified,” he said. “I am working toward this goal, which is why we are constantly submitting proposals and approaches that—yes—I truly believe, if there is political will, can lead us to a resumption of talks,” he concluded.
