Cristiano Ronaldo did not inform Jorge Jesus that he was going to leave the national team, according to Portuguese media reports.
The 41-year-old superstar had made sure to reveal his decision before announcing it only to Pedro Proença, president of the Portuguese Football Federation. Hence the federation’s immediate reaction, which issued a statement regarding Ronaldo shortly after his own “goodbye.”
Jesus reportedly intended to call up Ronaldo for the last two Nations League matches, even though CR7 had not responded to the messages the national team coach had sent him in recent weeks.
The relationship between the two ended definitively after the events in Copenhagen, when Jesus brought him on for warm-ups a few days earlier but did not bring him on as a substitute, and refused to apologize for his behavior toward the team captain.
