Members of the Office for Combating Human Trafficking (GEP) arrested a 37-year-old man yesterday, as part of an investigation into a case involving labor exploitation, threats of violence, and other related offenses.
Specifically, following a tip regarding the possible labor exploitation of an elderly person, members of the General Directorate for Combating Human Trafficking (GEP) went to a livestock farm in the Nicosia district, where they found a 73-year-old man working as a cleaner at the facility.
The 73-year-old was taken to the GEP offices, where he was treated as a potential victim of human trafficking. At the same time, a statement was taken from him regarding his working and living conditions at that location.
As part of the investigation and following a coordinated operation by GEP members, in cooperation with members of the Nicosia CID and OPE, they proceeded on the same day to arrest the 37-year-old owner of the livestock farm. At the same time, a search was conducted at the premises pursuant to a court warrant, during which a number of pieces of evidence related to the offenses under investigation were seized.
The arrested man was brought before the Nicosia District Court today, which issued a six-day detention order against him.
The Office for Combating Trafficking in Persons is continuing its investigation.
