Cameras turned off and seven gunshots: Two attacks in three months against the family of a life-sentenced prisoner

Authorities expand investigations to the central prison

Investigations by the authorities are in full swing, and they are on high alert, following the latest criminal act linked to the circle of the 48-year-old man convicted of the quadruple murder in Ayia Napa.

It is recalled that in the early hours of Tuesday, unknown assailants fired several shots at the home of a 76-year-old Greek Cypriot in Ormideia. At the time of the shooting, the man, his wife, and their daughter were inside the home. The 76-year-old’s wife heard the gunshots. It was determined that seven shots were fired at the home, striking the front of the house as well as the 76-year-old’s car, causing damage. The perpetrators are relatives of the man serving a life sentence, and this is in fact the second attack against the family.

According to Alpha correspondent Katerina Ioannou, CCTV footage is being analyzed to determine how the perpetrators operated—that is, whether they used a vehicle or a motorcycle—as authorities attempt to map out their route. Reports indicate that some closed-circuit cameras in the area were turned off.

It appears that the motive has now been “confirmed,” given that this was the second attack against the family in three months. Authorities are investigating all possibilities, including the possibility that the perpetrators attempted to send a new message to the 48-year-old man, who is serving a prison sentence at the Central Prison. The investigation will also extend to the Central Prison.

It should be noted that last August, the life-sentenced inmate’s brother was also targeted by criminals when an ambush was set up against him. The perpetrators had been lying in wait a few meters from where he lives, and as he was returning from work, they opened fire on his vehicle.

It should be noted that in Ormideia, shell casings were found at the scene, while at the same time, some surveillance footage has been obtained, and efforts are underway to map the route taken by the perpetrators in an attempt to track them down.
