The court took into account in its decision, as stated by the president of the Criminal Court,
- that he took his father’s life completely unprovoked
- These are the elements of brutality
- No evidence of premeditation was found
- We will examine the mental health issues faced by the defendant
- He was aware of his actions, as he himself called the police and reported that he had killed his father; he then called his spiritual father and also told him that he had killed his father
- We take into account that he has been hospitalized in a psychiatric facility
- There is no evidence to suggest that the defendant is a cold-blooded murderer
- Nor was his act entirely unrelated to his father’s character
- We take into account his personal circumstances
- his admission of guilt and the apology he expressed
The crime was committed on July 9, 2025. According to the evidence presented before the Court, the 48-year-old attacked his father with a knife, inflicting a total of nine wounds—six to the chest and three to the arm. Two of the wounds proved fatal.
From the very beginning, the case took on a particular dimension, as the defendant’s mental state became the focus of the investigation.
He reportedly expressed delusional ideas, and his hospitalization at Athalassa Hospital had preceded the incident.
According to a psychiatric report, he suffered from a chronic mental illness and required medication; however, he had been deemed fit to stand trial.
Initially, the 48-year-old had denied the charge, but in September 2026, he admitted to the homicide.
During the sentencing hearing, the defense cited his mental state, his remorse, and his clean criminal record, while also arguing that the act was not premeditated but resulted from a loss of self-control.
